A Happy Ending...

I received a call at work about a very skinny, almost dead dog that wandered up to a man's back porch. I dispatched and officer and she found skinny girl. A beautiful brindle pit. But she was just a spine with fur, no fat at all. My guess is that she was tied up and forgotten on a dog yard. The area she came from is pretty bad...dealers and fighters. I suppose she finally, somehow, got enough strength and broke loose from her chain before starving to death. She wandered off and was picked up by us, animal control. Before
I figured she'd be another sad story...starved, mistreated, abandoned, and then just another number euthanized at a shelter. But thank God she wasn't the same sad story. A young man came in and put an application on her. I wasn't so sure of the adoption since he seemed kind of young, but I went ahead with the adoption since everything else (references, home check, etc) checked out ok...
...I almost forgot about Skinny Girl over time until someone asked about her. There are so many other dogs that come through that an animal control officer's mind sometimes becomes numb to all the tragedies.
On Tuesday a guy came in to bring proof his dog was spayed. I didn't recognize him but after looking up the record, I realized it was for Skinny Girl. I made a mad dash out into the parking lot to catch the guy. He said she was doing great and had gained 22 pounds. I told him to bring a picture of her so I could see her.
After Twenty minutes later he came back, but not with a picture...he brought Skinny Girl with him! She looked absolutely wonderful. She had the perfect pit body weight. She looked so much like PeteBull with her beautiful brindle coat. She seemed so happy and playful. It was definitely a lift from a dreary week of work ...
